What You Should Know
What is a quality candle?
A quality candle is made from all natural ingredients. It is produced in a sterile environment that pays close attention to detail and makes sure to eliminate foreign objects from entering the candle making process. Hand crafted candles are still the highest quality due to every candle being visually inspected as they are made. A high quality candle will also have a filter in place to ensure that no hot wax makes its way into the ear canal which prevents the possibility of wax burns in the ear. The candles should use unbleached cotton muslin which is of the more flammable fibers used in this kind of process. Using unbleached muslin also ensures a more even burn.

What is the purpose of ear candling?
Ear candles are used to promote healing, relieve stress , and to release blocked energy. Ear candling is meant to be a soothing relaxing experience that is similar to aromatherapy.
Does ear candling have any health benefits?
Ear candling does have the ability to promote healing During the candling process the smoke that is created by the candle flows down into the ear canal and deposits a light coating of wax on top of the exposed skin and ear wax. The skin at that point is suffocated and cannot get oxygen, that process of being “smoked out” causes the skins pores to open and oil to excrete from the open pores. When this happens it gives nothing for the wax to stick to and 1-5 days later, wax will naturally excrete by itself. Your body would normally take longer to push out this built up ear wax but ear candling causes your body to speed up this process. Ear candling is a much more effective way to remove ear wax build-up as opposed to using cotton swabs which shoving wax back down the ear canal leading to infections and imbedded ear wax problems. Any doctor can tell you that you should not shove anything into your ear except your elbow.
The wax used to make ear candles are usually beeswax (proven to be beneficial for people who have allergies and environmental sensitivities), parafin (soothes an moisturizes the skin, opens pores, increases circulation), or soy (has a lower melting point providing a cleaner burn). Ear candles are also sometimes infused with oils such as lavender which is known to ease tension, relieve anxiety, and reduce stress.
How is energy released?
Another benefit is said to be the release of blocked energy. The ear has many pressure points and nerve endings that lead to other parts of the body. The warming sensation from the smoke is said to relax these nerves and pressure points which allows the natural energies in your body to flow easier.
Common candling terms
Paraffin - Paraffin wax is produced by refining wax from crude mineral oils. It is purified by boiling, then chilled and pressed through a filter. It is laboratory tested to be hygienically safe to use. It is colorless, tasteless, and odorless. The healing qualities of paraffin wax have been known for centuries and were used regularly in many ancient cultures. It soothes an moisturizes the skin, opens pores, increases circulation, and promotes a sense of calm and tranquility
Beeswax - Pure beeswax is one of nature’s most perfect substances. Beeswax candles burn longer and cleaner than paraffin wax candles. In fact, pure beeswax has the highest melting point of any known wax. Its slow smokeless flame are virtually drip-less (if kept away from drafts and fans). Made by industrious honey bees from the nectar of flowers, beeswax has a sweet, natural fragrance all its own. Beeswax has been proven to be beneficial for people who have allergies and environmental sensitivities.
Scented - When purchasing a candle that is scented or infused with a fragrance it is simply saying that the wax is treated with scented oil. The benefits of using scented ear candles are that you get some of the herbal healing effects from the oils that are used. For example, a lavender candle promotes relief from migraines, headaches, anxiety, depression, nervous tension, and restlessness. This concept is similar in teas and aroma therapy.
Soy - Soy is a type of wax that is made from processing soybean oil. Soy candles have a lower melting point and burn much cleaner that the alternatives.
Will Ear Candles Cure Swimmers, Ear Infections, Tinnitus?
No they wont. Keep in mind that ear candles are not a cure for physical ailments. They are a holistic alternative to modern medicine used to sooth, relax, and promote the body's natural methods of healing itself. If you are feeling severe discomfort though, you may not want to use an ear candle. Before you do an ear candle treatment you want to be free of serious medical problems so using an ear oil for a couple days prior might be a better idea in this situation. If you are still feeling discomfort after using an ear oil you may want to consult a physician to make sure that you do not have a more serious problem. However, candles have been known to sooth minor ear aches for many centuries due to the mild warming effects of the smoke and natural healing effects of the wax. Even though this has not been clinically proven, we prefer personal experience over laboratory testing because seeing is believing.
