We have been practicing ear candling for a long time and one of the most important things to keep in mind is cleanliness. You should always clean your ears before and after doing a candling.
Cleaning your ears should not be dangerous. Unfortunately there are many people who did not realize that using a Q-Tip was going to perforate their ear drum and change the way they care for their ears forever. Years ago we used to tell people that before and after you use ear candles that you should clean your ears with a cotton swab. We apologize if that caused any inconvenience. Recently our son was cleaning his ear with a generic brand cotton swab and his ear started to bleed inside and he was in a great deal of pain. The doctor said that he had perforated his eardrum and that it was common and gave us directions on how to take care of his ears from then on.
We were amazed, and after doing some research we found out that it really was a common occurrence. Since then we tell people to clean their ears with an ear wipe or a damp cloth before and after they use ear candles. This makes sure that you are not pushing wax back into the ear canal and also prevents possible damage to your ear drum.
